Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal Disease

Approximately 80% of adults have some degree of gum disease. Periodontal disease (gum disease) can range from gingivitis that causes bleeding of the gums to advance bone disease that can result in the loss of one's teeth. Unfortunately this disease can progress rather silently to a very advanced stage. That is one of the reasons why it is important to maintain regular dental examinations.

Bleeding of the gum tissue, bad breath, loose teeth and changes in your bite can be signs of gum disease. Depending on the stage of disease, treatment can consist of routine cleaning, deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), and surgical intervention.

We provide treatment for early to moderate stages of periodontal disease. Our patients with advanced stages of the disease that require extensive surgical intervention are referred to and treated by a periodontal surgeon colleague. There have been many wonderful advances in this field of dentistry allowing patients an excellent opportunity to save their teeth.
